After major refurbishment, The Castro Theatre will focus on live music
The organisers of Golden Gate Park's annual Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival have recently signed a contract to renovate one of the city's most famous venues.
Another Planet Entertainment, located in Berkeley, said on Wednesday that it will work with Bay Properties Inc., the owner of the historic Castro Theatre, to refurbish the landmark and bring live concerts and events to the facility.
In a statement, Another Planet CEO and co-founder Gregg Perloff said, "The Castro Theatre is a great facility that we will enhance for further usage in the future." "We intend to reactivate and re-energize the facility by improving the customer and artist experience, such as upgrading the dressing rooms, repairing the marquee and blade, and extending food and beverage service." In the Castro theatre, we wish to provide a wide range of programmes, including comedy, music, cinema, community and private events, and more. We're excited to contribute even more to the culture and economics of this thriving community."
"After almost a century of running the Castro Theatre, we have chosen to work with Another Planet Entertainment for the next development of our iconic theatre," said Chris Nasser Padian, vice president of Bay Properties. Another Planet is an excellent partner since they have a long history of working with the city and restoring historic buildings. Bay Properties is thrilled that their collaboration with APE will help to preserve the Castro Theatre's and Castro neighborhood's history."
We are thrilled to announce a new development - after operating the Castro Theatre for nearly a hundred years, we are partnering with our friends at @apeconcerts to bring you world class entertainment and the next evolution of our historic theatre.https://t.co/3iqSWuTCvJ

The structure will close for construction for around six to eight months, depending on permits, and a fresh slate of programming is planned for a grand reopening in 2023. It held the debut of "Milk," a film on assassinated Supervisor Harvey Milk, in 2008, and "The Matrix Resurrections" very recently.
