East Tennessee prepares for next winter storm
As of Friday, TDOT has pre-treated roadways north of I-40. The pre-treatment of roads before the predicted snowfall has been postponed due to forecasted rain in the region.
"Make sure your automobile is in perfect functioning order," Community Relations Officer Mark Nagi said. Make sure you have a full tank of petrol so you can keep the heat on in your car if there are big delays someplace."
It's a good idea, according to the NHTSA, to check your car's tyre pressure and tread.
"If required, it may take a bit longer to bring your automobile to a halt," Nagi warned.
According to Nagi, the easiest approach to keep safe during cold weather days is to avoid driving at all. This enables TDOT to inspect the roads and ensure that they are safe for use the following days.
Officials from Knox County said they've already sprayed 40,000 gallons of brine on the county's principal and secondary roadways. They'll also be removing personnel on Sunday afternoon and bringing in new ones at 10 p.m.
Officials with Sevier County Electric are preparing for the weather this weekend, which has already caused over 30,000 outages. It took almost a week to restore all of them, so outage teams are hoping to be more prepared this time.
